There are 3 daughters. The sum of their ages is 13 and the product of their ages is 36. Since this wasn't enough information one more fact was added, the oldest daughter has red hair. What are their ages?

The sum of their ages is the 13 (???) [address=13???]

Samuel

forget about the address, there are variations of this riddle, and i used a bad one. it should be good now

9 2 2

Okay, now give me a good explanation for your original version with the address please.

Samuel
08-12-2006, 23:34:45
yup, but i actually used a good one, you didnt actually need to know the sum of the numbers
1) you need to find all the products that equal 36
2)you find the sum of the numbers
3) you will notice that every single one is different except for two that equal 13.
4) then you think, if this wasnt enough info, then the sum must have been 13
5) That leaves you with 2 2 9 and 1 6 6, and because you now know that there is an oldest daughter it must be 2 2 9

make sense?

Yeah, logic problem.
Einstein's Riddle!
There are 5 houses in 5 different colors. In each house lives a person with a different nationality. The 5 owners drink a certain type of beverage, smoke a certain brand of cigar, and keep a certain pet. No owners have the same pet, smoke the same brand of cigar, or drink the same beverage.
The question is: Who owns the fish?
Hints:
The Brit lives in the red house.
The Swede keeps dogs as pets.
The Dane drinks tea.
The green house is on the left of the white house.
The green homeowner drinks coffee.
The person who smokes Pall Mall rears birds.
The owner of the yellow house smokes Dunhill.
The man living in the center house drinks milk.
The Norwegian lives in the first house.
The man who smokes Blend lives next to the one who keeps cats.
The man who keeps the horse lives next to the man who smokes Dunhill.
The owner who smokes Bluemaster drinks beer.
The German smokes prince.
The Norwegian lives next to the blue house.
The man who smokes Blend has a neighbor who drinks water.
Einstein wrote this riddle early during the 19th century. He said 98% of the world could not solve it. Its not hard, you just need to pay attention and be patient.

yeah i looked at a better one, and im not supposed to be talking to you when i ask you are just supposed to here to guys saying it. and the guy who is answering knows the address. but after awhile he realizes that wasnt enough. the reason you can immediately tell its 13 is because, if it was 14 only 9 4 1 would be possible and he wouldnt have needed more info. if it was 10 then 3 4 3 would have been the only solution. 13 was the only one that had two solutions therefore making the address not enough. this leaves you knowing its either 9 2 2 or 1 6 6, and you know the rest

better?

Of what? The daughters? Or Einsteins riddle?

Just post :-)

Samuel

Puzzle: A man in my neighborhood has three daughters. One day when I asked their ages he said, ?The product of their ages is 36.?

When I still couldn?t find their ages he said, ?Ok. I?ll give you another clue: the sum of their ages is same as the number of my house.?

I knew the number but still couldn?t calculate their ages. So the man gave me a last clue, ?My eldest daughter lives upstairs.?

Finally I was able to figure out their ages. How old are they?

Hide Hint

Hint: There are only so many ways that three numbers can have a product of 36.

Hide Answer

Answer: The ages are 2, 2, and 9.

Hide Solution

Solution: There are only so many ways that three numbers can have a product of 36:

1 ? 1 ? 36 = 36
1 ? 2 ? 18 = 36
1 ? 3 ? 12 = 36
1 ? 4 ? 9 = 36
1 ? 6 ? 6 = 36
2 ? 2 ? 9 = 36
2 ? 3 ? 6 = 36
3 ? 3 ? 4 = 36

It?s got to be one of these, but we don?t know which one. The second clue is about the sum of their ages:

1 + 1 + 36 = 38
1 + 2 + 18 = 21
1 + 3 + 12 = 16
1 + 4 + 9 = 14
1 + 6 + 6 = 13
2 + 2 + 9 = 13
2 + 3 + 6 = 11
3 + 3 + 4 = 10

The narrator knew the number of the man?s house, so the only way that this clue didn?t help him is if the sum is 13, in which case it?s still ambiguous. So we know the ages are either 1, 6, and 6, or 2, 2, and 9.

The third clue makes a reference to the oldest daughter, so the ages must be 2, 2, and 9.

(It?s true that there could still be an ?oldest? daughter in the case of 1, 6, and 6, since they could be 10 months apart and both be 6. But since the man gave this as a clue, we can assume that it?s suppose to push us towards the 2, 2, and 9 solution.)

oh and i dont really remember the answer to the einstein riddle, so i may try it again soon

A king had three sons. he needed to figure out which son was going to inherit his kingdom so he gathered them all together. he gave each of them an identical room and a gold coin. he told them that whoever bought something with the gold and filled the room the fullest would get his kingdom. the first son bought hay and filled the room about half full. the second son bought feathers and filled it almost all the way. the third son bought only 2 things and they both fit into his pocket. he inherited the kingdom...what did he buy?

Here is an easy one:

There are 4 men - Bob, Paul, Jim and Gary. Bob is horrible to everyone and no-one really likes him. One day the four men go on holiday together and are in a posh hotel. They all decide to go to the steam room together. Each man goes in carrying an unusual object Bob takes a banana, Paul takes a book (even though the room is to steamy to see anything), Jim takes a therm os flask and Gary takes a Cd player.

They are in for an hour before someone realises that Bob is dead. No blood is found on any of the items that the men took into the room (not even the banana) and the police find nothing else that could have been used to murder the man. No-one has entered or left the room. Who murdered Bob and how?

I will give to Puzzles which you have to solve by YOURSELF....

First Puzzle:
This is an unusual paragraph. I'm curious how quickly you can find out what is so unusual about it. It looks so plain you would think nothing is wrong with it. In fact, nothing is wrong with it! It is unusual though. Study it, and think about it, but you still may not find anything odd. But if you work at it a bit, you might find out. Try to do so without any coaching!

Hello all, I'm fairly new here, but you will find I'm full of surprises. I knew most of the riddles so far and I hope you will like mines. My favorite ones are like the next one. Here it comes: A very furious cowboy walks into a tavern. He goes to the bartender and ask for something to drink. The bartender quickly grabs a 2 barrel shotgun hidden under his desk and points it in the cowboy's face. Then the cowboy heartily thanks the bartender and swear that he's gonna come back if he ever needs it. Why is that?

Mistery
10-30-2006, 19:30:42
Is this the one with the hiccup, that the cowboy wants to get rid of, and then he is scared by the gun and his hiccup stops?
Or is this another one?

fredskywalker
10-30-2006, 19:56:52
Thats the one, mister know it all, fun spoiler **joking here**.

Here's an easy one: It's the story of the 2 smallest human in the world. They were living togheter. One day, the second smallest human alive, was looking for his friend, the smallest human ever. He wasnt answering and the door to his room was lock. After 2 days, it started to smell bad so the second smallest human alive called the police and they found the first smallest human ever dead on his bed (after forcing the door). The room was filled with trophys he had won as being the smallest human ever. He was very proud of it for it was his greatest achievement. All they found suspicious in the bedroom was some pieces of wood. How did he died?

could of spelt it wrong. wool maybe?? or wood?

Adventure
10-31-2006, 12:49:40
I also think it is a typo, but wool or wood doesn't really make sense to me. But maybe that is also the purpose? :?

devil_Girl_Kim
10-31-2006, 12:51:39
if its wool, maybe he strangled himself wiv it, as hes small enuf?

Adventure
10-31-2006, 13:02:17
Or the second smallest human has sawn the legs of the table shorter so that the smallest human ever thought he wasn't the smallest human ever anymore. And he felt so bad about this that he committed suicide. Nice friend he has..

fredskywalker
10-31-2006, 14:36:48
The word was wood, sorry about that. And we have a winner in the name of Adventure. You could say the friend saw his cane or whatever and he died of grief.

Here's one I like, so if you know it, please say so but let others have a try at it.

A guy just wash ashore on a deserted island with only is cigarettes pack and his matches (and his clothing of course). The water surrounding him is filled with man eating sharks, pirannhas, electric eels and jellyfish (the ones from SpongeBob show), wich makes any escape by sea impossible. The island itself is completely covered by hay. The winds start blowing hard and a storm is on the way. Suddenly lightning strikes right at the end of the island, starting a huge fire, in about an hour the entire island will be on fire. What can he do to save his life?

devil_Girl_Kim
11-01-2006, 14:06:08
he could set another fire on the other side of him, the wind will blow the fire away from him and he can wait for it to burn down the hay til its ashes, then just stand there, as the other fire, when it reaches him, will have nothing to burn?

fredskywalker
11-01-2006, 16:23:56
That is a perfect answer Kim, congrats. Here's the next one, again if you know it, give people 24hrs to try to solve it.

A girl is found dead in the middle of a field. The cause of her death was obvious but what's strage is that what could have saved her was inside the backpack she was carrying. How did she died?

She died from Dehydration?
The thing was a Water bottle?

devil_Girl_Kim
11-02-2006, 20:52:36
she had an asma, and the thing was an asma pump?
or maybe she died of starvation and the thing was a piece of chicken.
maybe she died of a gas attack and the item was a gas mask.K im getting stupid now, i think ill stop!

fredskywalker
11-02-2006, 22:33:18
Those were good try but she would have had the time to use them. Here's a hint: all her bones were broken, like she was crushed by something.

Slimy Jim
11-29-2006, 22:39:17
She fell out of an aeroplane. The thing in her backpack was a parachute.

Am I right? If so, can someone else post a new riddle? I can't think of any right now.

fredskywalker
11-30-2006, 02:04:55
That is corect Jim, at last someone has found the answer. You just forgot to mention that the parachute was broken and didn't open and that's why she died. Here's the next riddle:

A guy is found dead completely naked in the middle of a field with only a piece of hay in his hand. There is no indication as how he got there because there is absolutely no trace leading to him. He died of massive intern injuries. How did he died and why?

Ummm, what do you mean with "between them"?
Do they buy 7 seats or 3 seats?
For the case you mean 3 seats, it might be grandfather, father and son. This makes two fathers and two sons.

Okay here's one:

There was a shephard and he had 3 items:

A chicken
A fox
And a bag of grain...

He had to get them into the other side of a brigde but he could carry only 1 item with him so if he picked the fox the chicken would eat the grain and etc...etc...how does he cross the birge without loosing his items??

Rules:

Fox eats Chicken
Chicken eats Grain

...but they don't eat each-other when the shephard is into that side of bridge :)

SimplyCrazy
03-11-2007, 16:26:37
Oh, very hard :P

First he takes the chicken over, then rows back.
He takes the grain (or fox) to the other side, but takes the chicken back with him
He then takes the fox (or the grain, whichever's left) with him
And last, the chicken :D

Old riddle *yawn*
