If you are a chemist or a scientist, I guess it might be construed as a symbol for the sound of something...but this thread really seems to be turning into something other than just a Picture Rebus thread. I'm thinking we should call it riddle rebus from now on. Then the sky's the limit as far as making each sound a riddle.
I'm not saying this toward anyone in particular. I just think that we have all drifted away from what a rebus is.

Thought the same, RBS.
And the middle is a Japanese Torii (pronounced "Tory-E"), best I can do.
3rd could be TOWER or LEAN (?)
good find, had no idea about that one. Should help alot.

Torii is not the second pane, nor is it Japanese. You have the right structure, but it has another name.
The third pane does not represent tower or lean. This also has another name which I only discovered when googling the sound I wanted to make.
My first though was correct then...alligator
Alley gate tor
Learned something :D good one leap

Being a crossword mavin, I only know "tor" as a rocky peak or hill.
Pane 2 puts me out of THIS race :P
Lol. I see we share another hobby. My rock words are tor, crag and arete.

Don't mean to pick a fight, but, that particular Torii is the Itsukushima Shrine, located on an island of Japan !!

Don't know who the three characters are either.
I meant the 'Miyajima Torri Gate' did not represent 'Torii' or 'Japanese' in the rebus. I did not mean to imply the structure itself was not Japanese.
sorry, their names are Wakko, Yakko and Dot.

LOL... "arete", not to be confused with an "aerie" :)
What did you WIN leap... I misunderstood your statement. The TOR is still a problem :) That picture barely even shows the tor that tower is built on !!

I believe you are correct with both, Mcakkay.
RBS, an homage to John Hughes, I imagine (?) What a genius - what a loss.
The second one is "Pretty in Pink". Both movies starring Molly Ringwald and very nice ones too. Well done Mcakkay :)
yes shooter, american football.
Then I had absolutely no chance. :D
:appl: wtg Mcakkay and elle. Mcakkay was so close and elle gave the assist. I know nothing about John Hughes except he made excellent movies.
Mcakkay or elle? Whoever comes in first with a rebus please go ahead and post it.
