The link is the start of the game. The first question and the first answer are given on this starting page:
you have to add 01-armstrong
so that the URL looks like:
www.simplecodeworks.com/covert/01-armstrong

if you highlight the question you get 587 - 43 * (21 - 96) = ? not 87 - 43 * (21 - 96) = ? the anwer is 1,096,704

Hi everyone, have just started this puzzle about an hour ago and like everyone else, i appear to be stuck on level 7 trying to get to level 8.
I managed to get the mask over the letters, but they don't make any sense.
i know that there are 13 lines of 40 letters and every letter of the alphabet is used also.
The mask is repeated 9 times in the background, so i thought that it might be a clue and tried moving the alphabet forward 9 spaces to make a new clue, but that didn't work either!!
Has anyone else got any further or got any other ideas for us to try :)

I'll give you some hints for #7 if you help me with #8 (which is one of those damn stereograms that I have never, ever been able to see!)
clue about how to use the mask
you need to rotate it 180 degrees like the previous one
clue about the letters you find
it's a simple Caesar cipher
use http://www.antilles.k12.vi.us/math/cryptotut/caesar4.htm if you need to
tempus42

On to #10 (something totally new!)
clue for #9
it's similar to #8 (salt and pepper), but harder to find -- if you can read html, check the source and get your bifocals out for the right place to click
and once you find the question
Don't think Dickens -- The puzzle maker is obviously a vintage comic-book fan!

help for #9 (because I need someone to help *me* on #10) :)
Do you see a few diagonal rows of letters? You'll know it when you see it. If so, you still need to use the Atbash cipher on it - sorry, I don't know of a simple online atbash solver; you'll have to do it by hand. Check wikipedia for details.

agpuddycat--it's very similar to the previous level.
check for more than one background image. then make sure you're seeing everything you could possibly see in the actual image that says atbash

wav files can be used to conceal all sorts of non-audio data -- I suspect something like that, but I've tried everything I can think of and can't find anything of use. There are steganography tools that could be used, but they specifically said no 3rd-party software needed.....

clue about how to use the mask
you need to rotate it 180 degrees like the previous one
clue about the letters you find
it's a simple Caesar cipher

Hi nightfighters (at least at germany it's 2:00 in the morning *gg*)
I'm stuck on #10, writing down what I tried so far would last hours! (Sorry for my English!)
Anyone there who made this level?
miladvm

Your english is excellent! So let me know what have you gotten done?
MyFairHexi
05-13-2006, 01:11 AM
First I tried to change the kind of file, cause I thought of the volume of this wave-file, could be sth. else?
But I tried text-, graphic- and all other files I could think of, nothing works.
Then I thought about anagramming anything like the filename or that, what you ar told to do with it on the page - thousandone results, but nothing usable.
miladvm
05-13-2006, 01:13 AM
Me and my friend have tried researchng "white noise" because thats what we think it is, but the page doesn't say what we should do with it.
MyFairHexi
05-13-2006, 01:18 AM
Had another idea: if you anagram noisewav you get "as on view"...
But couldn't figure out, what could be meant with that.
miladvm
05-13-2006, 01:20 AM
Hmmm.
I think that the static noise is just a mask for noise that could possibly be in the background. We need to find a way to remove the static.
MyFairHexi
05-13-2006, 01:22 AM
good idea so far, but doing that without any 3rd party tool???
MyFairHexi
05-13-2006, 01:23 AM
I mean, that's why I thougt, it wouldn't be an noise at all and we should look for anything else.
miladvm
05-13-2006, 01:25 AM
Good thinking, but what to look for? Have you got the message
Or you can directly access the
file from the following alernate URL:
www.freewebs.com/podgame/noise.wav
MyFairHexi
05-13-2006, 01:29 AM
Yes, that's the only way to hear it directly. Otherwise you have to download the file.
This got me also thinking about, but didn't really put me forwards.

However you can also use the magnifying glass in Paint and then the letters are also to see.
