Um.... I sure wish I knew what the character is from those notes... I haven't found anything for my inventory, just TONS of notes.

Yes, first you need to read enough notes in order to be able to pick up inventory items.

I already had

bat and saw a key

but then chose the wrong answer when clicking on the door

I tried to open the door with 67% and died. I'm not giving it another try - It's pointless without knowing the language in this case. But I liked the graphics, wood! My favorite material

What to do in order not to die too soon

don't open the door before you got more than 67 % complished, actually I suppose you need 100% or something close to this. If you click on some items (not notes in Japanese) than you may get two possible decidions to choose (in text bar) - for example if you click on exit door you may choose first option - to open or second - abort this action.

I'm only guessing because don't understand a single word in this game but it works like this.

then restarted and couldn't do it. Second time

edit: ok, I see why I couldn't pick up the first item I mentioned
