  • Goodbye, Delicious Friend!

That's it, i've had my last bag ever today It's time for me to finally say goodbye to...

Microwave popcorn! , recent reports have said that it is extremely bad for you, containing ingredients that can cause cancer and give you a disease that will destroy lung tissue (Even though the FDA said it was safe, i'd rather not take the chance ) (Just the pre-bagged and microwave ready stuff though not the airblown or stove cooked )

    I will miss you dearly!

At least I can still put the kernals in a brown paper bag and microwave them

Anyone else have any food's their kicking because of certain health hazards? or just because?

heart honestly think about it...everything gives you cancer these days...
        breathing = lung cancer
        being outside = skin cancer
making love = HPV = cervical cancer

not to mention heart disease from some artificial sweetners, fatty foods, etc etc etc

i really wouldn't worry about it if i were you because if you did you'd be sitting in a corner wrapped in bubble wrap eating raw carrots all your life ( but then your skin would turn orange).....lol

I agree with you. The other day I saw a report on the news saying that there have been proofs that fish grilled in too high temperatures may give you cancer.

I'm not sure raw carrots are a good option. With all the weird stuff they put on the food, you'll get some other sort of diseases.
McDonalds' burgers are the way to go - they claim it to be 100% cow meat, anyway.

It's a pity tho, about the popcorn. Lately I eat alot of microwave popcorn because it's quicker to do, and there's not much mess to clean. The stove one requires me to wash the pan, and the airblown isn't as sweet.

I realize that but somethings are riskier than others and are best to be avoided See for yourself by typing in "Is microwave popcorn bad for you" in google I've read enough when I got to "Popcorn worker's lung" disease

When I saw this thread up on the Index I thought we were saying goodbye to a member who was leaving. Was wondering who I met on here that would be described "delicious" ? Quit eating the buttery varieties long ago. Still like the lite and low salt ones. I could live without it completely - good luck in not missing it too much.

However the peanut scare has me very upset. I cannot go without my peanut butter but so far they say it is still safe. Better stay that way.

I never really paid attention to what the doctors and specialists said about anything! But, I know how much you're gonna miss popcorn because I love it too!

                        Lol, same here

Well, I have an ambiguous feeling about reports of "dangerous" food.
On one hand, I of course don't want to eat unhealthy (or even almost poisonous) food.
On the other hand, if you look around, you find shocking reports on all kind of food, they even claim that our "modern" flour and salt are mixed with stuff that are dangerous. The same is true for all kinds of dye for cloths, for washing powder, for cosmetics, furniture etc.
There are lots of arguments going on about organic food here - some scientific reports claim that they are healthier than normal food, whereas other reports say they are not different, but cost a lot more due to the "organic" label.
Certainly I try to feed my family healthy (which of course doesn't mean never to eat french fries or sweets), but if I was living completely according all those reports, my family would starve

                          And,
You have been eating the microwave popcorn already, so if it really was dangerous than you are already in danger right? :']
I'm on a diet so no popcorn for me either way

Well, just want to let you know, that I work at a law firm, and that "popcorn lung disease" had to do with the way they CREATE the microwave popcorn and it's packaging, that the fumes within the factory were toxic, causing this problem with its employees - not the people who eat it. We have had many discussions with a law firm in Missouri, USA where one of the lawsuits is being handled (because there is a processing plant for microwave popcorn there). Just to put your mind at ease a little. But I COMPLETELY agree/understand your worry about it.

But I agree - I doubt with all it's artificial ingredients that it's all that healthy. But, as everyone else has also noted, pretty much everything is giving us cancer these days. Not a good thing. I'd think to let yourself have a bag of it once in a great while would be okay. But, it's a healthy choice you're making!

Since I moved where I live now, I live right across from an organic store. Everything they sell is organic, from foods to baby clothing! But, due to convenience, I've been buying a lot more from this store because it's literally across the street from me. I love knowing it's organic, because where I live, everyone is talking about "organic" and we're a pretty health conscious community... (though -as you say, with money issues, that's really hard to do...So I am not as health conscious as I'd like to be.) Luckily, studies have shown that it doesn't seem to always make a difference for some things if it's organic or not. They're equally healthy. Anyway, guess this was a big tangent. Sorry!

I'm trying to cut out some of my sweets and carbs. Need to get healthy and lose weight. This is NOT an easy task. Goodbye my delicious friends!
