Room Escape v1: technical problems
Hi,
Room Escape v1 is on Newground, but websites that you need in order to get the codes are hosted elsewhere (Freewebs).
Since 3 weeks these pages are frozes due to bandwidth problems. I contacted the author right at the beginning of this problem and he answered me that he could not do anything.
You can only solve this game if you get the codes from the forum. As I have realized, players are getting frustrated about this game since the don't know that they can only beat it by cheating.
It's up to you to decide what should be done since this problem seems to last longer (add warning information to the game, close the game...???).
Thank you.

Just added a warning ... and now the author informed that the external websites are working again (new month!). But better you leave a warning that the game might eventually not function without help since we don't know when the monthly bandwidth will be used up again...

Help! The Game's Not Working...
Since there are some players who post in the game threads that the corresponding game screen doesn't load but stays a black square, I decided to post here the following information:
You probably need an upgrade of your Flash Player.
You can test which version of Flash Player you have for example here:
http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/script/flashdetect
If it's not Flash Player 8 (at this moment this is the recent version), you must download the recent version from the Macromedia Website here
http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/
Update: There is version 9 meanwhile, but there seem to be problems with playing some games with this latest version, at least for a couple of players.
Find out the system requirements here (pc and mac):
http://www.adobe.com/products/flashp...fo/systemreqs/
Installation instructions:

FAQ:

If you have still problems, restart your pc after downloading the Flash Player. Try another browser, get the latest version of the browser.
Troubleshooting site of Flash Player says:
I have installed Macromedia Flash Player but still don't see any Flash content. What is wrong?
The most common reasons that Flash content fails to display are:
Pop-up blockers blocking Flash
The most common cause of Flash movies failing to display is the presence of a pop-up/ad blocker software that specifically targets Flash content. To find out more about this please see Flash movies do not appear after installing the Flash Player (TN 19091).
Internet Explorer Settings on a Macintosh
On the Macintosh there is a setting in Internet Explorer to enable plug-ins. This setting is located in the Explorer > Preferences menu of the browser. In the Preferences dialog box, select Web Content under Browser Display. Then ensure that the Enable Plug-ins option is selected.
Internet utilities blocking ActiveX
Some Internet Utilities, such as Norton Internet Utilities, perform functions similar to a firewall and may restrict viewing of ActiveX controls. You need to ensure that your firewall or utility settings are set to allow ActiveX controls or you will not be able to view Flash movies in Internet Explorer.Last edited by Mistery; 12-21-2006, 07:43:59.

I don't exactly know what your problem is and what doesn't work right. Therefore first my questions. Did you download it from the Macromedia site here?
http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/...d/download.cgi
And did you follow the instructions?
If so, what did not work exactly?

Here is a troubleshoot site:
http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/kn...=tn_15508#12_2
What browser do you use?
The troubleshoot site says the following:
How can I get a version of Shockwave Player for my non-Netscape, non-Internet Explorer web browser? Browsers that Macromedia officially supports are listed in Shockwave System Requirements. Many other browsers provide support for Netscape and Internet Explorer plug-ins and ActiveX controls. Usually, the Shockwave Player can be installed in these browsers in the same manner as with Netscape and Internet Explorer.
Although support for functionality depends on the browser, users can usually successfully install Macromedia Shockwave Player directly from Macromedia's Shockwave Player Download Center. Refer to your browser manufacturer's web site for details or assistance.
Why can't I install Shockwave Player properly with Netscape 6.0? Netscape Navigator 6.0 does not support the Shockwave Player. Update to the latest version of Netscape to view Shockwave content. See Shockwave support in Netscape Navigator 6.0 (TechNote 14859) for more information.
So from what you say ("you'll need ActiveX to download this program") either you use a browser that does not support ActiveX or the ActiveX is disabled in your options. Just my idea.

Do you also fulfill the system requirements?

And do you have administrator rights?

Here is forum where you might find some info or postyour question:
