The Guinard family of five is struggling to get by in rural Haiti ("Ayiti" in Haitian Creole). The father, Jean, and mother, Marie are doing their best to give their teenage son and daughter, Patrick and Jacquline, and their little boy, Yves, the best life possible.

The family has a simple home and a farm that earns them a little money. Jean and Marie have very little education, but they're working to help their kids get an education and improve their chances for a comfortable life.

There are a few international NGOs (non-government organizations) trying to help members of the impoverished community, but they need volunteers to get any major project off the ground.

The Guinard family faces some difficult challenges resulting from poverty, severe weather, and even potential violence. But if they're careful and lucky, they may have a chance at a better life.

You have four years to help the Guinard family as they confront the "cost of life." Good luck!

Addiction

This game is pathetically addicting. My friend and I were on the phone playing it for two hours. Then I went to her house and we played it. It's a sick sort of obsession.

Unfortunately I always end up killing someone
however she never does

I have played over a hundred times and learned some tricks
i don't know if they would count as "spoilers" as much as helping?
just advice? so i won't post them until I am sure they aren't spoilers.

buy the home remedy each time and to make them all work send one to the clinic at a time send one person to school at a time if someone's health is like 6 have them rest.. always have women be marketwomen and you can get a degree without sending anyone to school if you have them do volunteer work :-)

Upgrade the living conditions to "Good" immediately and buy the home remedy every season and their health will remain constant. I played an entire game w/out sending one of them to the clinic this way.
Work for about half of the first year with noone in school, and then devote all of the education to one family member (I've had the most luck letting the older girl go to school full time).
Get a bike as soon as possible. You can reduce time in school if you buy books and a radio. The chickens also come in handy after you lose one income with someone in school.

Even if i set it to Good Living it still goes back to poor living :/

Well, I have succesfly made it without killing anyone! (Go figure)

Here are some tips.

1.make you women ALWAYS do market work
2.If they can't then make the girl work as a volenteer or work somewhere else. Woman can work as a rum distiller
3.The husband/man always make him work as a rum distiller! Good money
4.The other boys can work as volenteers, or just as farm workers at ur farm
5.Buy home remedies. They help
6.If their health goes to 5 make them go to a clinic. Send one at a time. (Or if u have extra money, 2 at a time)
7. Don't make them stay at the clinic to long, up to 7 or 8 health would be fine.
8.Don't have to buy a bike, but you can if you want to
9.Buy Livestock and better plumbing
10. The End...I only got up to decent living, so i dunno...
11.Oh, and if you want education, ur on ur own

THIS CONTAINS SPOILERS!!!!

None of my people have ever died. It's fairly easy. Here are my tried and true methods...

1. Buy books and supplies EVERY season. The entire family receives education/degrees from it, and you don't have to waste time in school. Also, buy new shoes the first season. They last throughout the game, and make the work load easier. There is really no need to buy any other items.

2. The youngest is the ONLY one who should volunteer. This should be his primary job, except on rare occasions when he has to work the family farm when 2 or more family members need to go to the hospital. Everyone else HAS to work every season to keep your head above water.

3. NEVER work as a rum distiller. It's unnecessary, and you are almost guaranteed to have major health problems.

4. Once you reach 1000+ Goud, buy a bike and allow the father or eldest son to work construction.

5. Leave the game on "decent living". There is no need to change this, as doing so will create more of a burden than a help.

6. The daughter's primary job should be as a market woman, except on rare occasions when she may have to work as a field hand, or on the family farm.

7. Every season, have everyone "work hard". That results in more money coming in.

8. If prompted to choose whether or not to buy a market stall, DO SO!!!! The mother, or father will then be able to work as a stall owner for 420 Goud per season. It is best to allow the father to keep working as a mechanic, or construction worker, while making the mother work as the stall owner...(this results in more money per season)

9. Try not to have more than two family members in the clinic at one time. Also, there is no need to pay for the (more expensive) hospital every time. Use the clinic as your primary means of healthcare (it's cheaper). Only go to the hospital under serious conditions (such as bloody diarrhea or dyptheria). Also, there is no need to wait until your people are 100% well. One season is usually enough of a hospital stay to allow them to be able to work next season. ("colds" are not serious conditions, and should be ignored...unless it turns into a persistent cough or chest cold, in which case you should choose to admit them to the hospital)

10. During hurricane season, ALWAYS choose to pay the 150 Goud needed to prepare. If you don't, the entire family could end up in the hospital with illnesses.

...Well, that's all I can think of at the moment. I'll add to the list if I remember something. I hope this helps!!!

I Love this Game i have been playing it far too much, think i have done about as well as i can, i can now get to the end with all my people alive and with 14 certificates :-)
